Ligue 1 is one of the major European club competitions in football, a league that has launched hundreds of stars. Despite Paris Saint-Germain and their deep pockets being the perennial favourites for the title, Ligue 1 has sprung plenty of surprises in recent years and some wonderful Cinderella stories.
The 2024/25 Ligue 1 season concluded with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) securing their 13th French league title, extending their dominance with a fourth consecutive championship. PSG clinched the title way back on April 5, 2025, after a narrow 1-0 victory over Angers, with Désiré Doué scoring the decisive goal. They maintained an impressive run throughout the season, losing only two games and drawing six in 34 matches played. Les Parisiens were so dominant that they finished 19 points ahead of the second-place Olympique de Marseille.
The same as the year before, Lique 1 got three Champions League places, occupied by Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique Marseille, and AS Monaco, securing direct qualification. However, Nice finished fourth, giving them a UCL qualification spot, allowing them to potentially give France a fourth team in the competition’s proper.
Nice needed a win on the final matchday, and they did that in emphatic fashion by destroying Brest at home by 6-0. Three more teams competed for the fourth spot, making this one of the most interesting last matchdays in French league’s history.
In the end, Lille missed out on the Champions League qualification spot, even though they defeated Reims by 2-1. They finished equal on points with Nice, but with a worse goal differential. They will have to make do with Europa League football as they are joined by Lyon. Les Gones benefited the most on the final gameday, finishing 6th, while Strasbourg lost all of their chances of playing European football next season as they lost to Le Havre and finished 7th.
Montpellier was relegated directly after a difficult campaign marked by the longest losing streak of 11 matches. They finished the season bottom last with only 16 points and four games won. They are joined by Saint-Etienne, who had a chance at the last gameday but lost to Toulouse 3-2 at home, losing all hope of Ligue 1 status.
Reims’ 2-1 loss against Lille meant that they finished 16th in the league, sending them to relegation playoffs. Meanwhile, Le Havre’s 3-2 win, thanks to a 90th-minute penalty converted by Abdoulaye Toure, got them the coveted 15th place in the dying seconds of the season. Stade de Reims face Metz with hopes of staying in the league in the relegation playoffs final.
Ousmane Dembélé led the scoring charts during most of the season and in the end finished with 21 goals scored. However, Mason Greenwood’s two goals scored on the last matchday saw him become the joint top scorer of the league alongside Dembélé.
Arnaud Kalimuendo finished third with 17 goals scored, in front of Jonathan David (Lille) with 16 and Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) with 15.
As far as assists go, Rayan Cherki of Lyon and Gaëtan Perrin of Auxerre both managed 11 assists this season, in front of Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco), Bradley Barcola (PSG), and Moses Simon (Nantes) who all had 10.
PSG’s dominance was clear from early on, as they led the table from nearly the start and were already 10 points ahead by the halfway mark. Their unbeaten run and consistency made the title race a formality well before the season’s end. This season reinforced PSG’s status as the benchmark in French football, with no real challengers able to keep pace over the long term.
The league’s reduction to 18 teams has arguably concentrated quality and intensified competition for European spots and survival. While PSG’s supremacy was expected, the battles for second place and relegation brought drama, especially with clubs like Nice and Lille securing European spots and Montpellier struggling at the bottom.
Offensively, the league maintained a healthy goal-scoring rate close to three goals per game, indicating an attacking style prevalent across teams. The presence of high-scoring games and large-margin wins makes this league fun to watch and enjoy despite a one-sided race across the entire season.
French league will definitely drop in popularity because Mbappe left PSG but still, they are among the top 5 leagues in the world. That’s why there are many tipsters watching and analysing their games. We have experts in this field who are on a weekly basis sharing their tips with you for free.

You can also be one of the tipsters and share your skills by competing with them for some amazing prizes. The only goal is to make correct predictions. When posting your tip on the event, you can find some valuable information like the lineups, injuries, news, etc.
To make your predictions and betting tips better, you should find statistics about the leagues and teams you would bet on. This will increase your chance of winning because some tipsters find patterns regarding goals, BTTS, 1×2, etc. Even if PSG is dominating the league, they almost lost the title to Lens which was behind by just 1 point.
For French teams, you can’t expect a lot of goals on average which is the reason why 56% is over 2.5 goals. But, also take into consideration Ligue 1 predictions that for Angers and PSG it’s 68% and Monaco, Montpellier, Rennes and Troyes are at 63% for over 2.5 goals. Always look at these teams and the odds that will probably be lower because of these stats.
Ligue 1 | 0.5+ | 1.5+ | 2.5+ | 3.5+ | 4.5+ | 5.5+ | BTTS | Team Didn’t Concede | Team Didn’t Score |
Total Goals 90′ | 93.2% | 78.2% | 56.3% | 29.2% | 13.7% | 6.1% | 58.2% | 24.3% | 24.3% |
Half-time Goals | 73.9% | 36.8% | 14.7% | 3.9% | 0.8% | 0.5% | 20.3% | 52.9% | 52.9.% |
Another thing you should take into notice for each prediction is the number of goals or advantages of home turf in the first half. French football isn’t popular because of the number of goals they score unless it’s PSG, instead, they are quite familiar for their draws in the first half. As a part of your tips, check the home advantage of certain teams and if they have the potential to score early.
One of the most interesting things is that in the second half, Paris SG isn’t performing well like Lens, Rennes, and Marseille. This is why stats matter for your betting tips, the goal difference for Lens was +19 but they had more draw games instead of losses like Paris SG.
The home advantage table is the same as the general performance in the second half where Lens and Rennes are going strong.
Compared to other top leagues, Ligue 1 predictions and betting tips usually involve fewer goals and more draws during the season. You should take this into notice before even doing the analysis and reading our match previews. We have football tips for other European leagues as well but more importantly, you can find previews for this week’s matches on our league page.
If you need more in-depth football tips with analytics from an expert point of view, our expert insights football tips are the right place. People who are doing the research are very experienced in the Ligue 1 as well as other top leagues like Bundesliga, Premier League, etc. Another great tip is to find the user with the best predictions and see what they are looking into when analysing the match.
As far as trophies go, Paris Saint-Germain has been the dominant force in French football for the last 10 years among all teams. Something that we greatly considered within our Ligue 1 betting tips. Only two teams managed to take the title away from the Parisians in recent history: Lille and Monaco.
Season | Champion |
---|---|
2024-25 | Paris Saint-Germain |
2023-24 | Paris Saint-Germain |
2022-23 | Paris Saint-Germain |
2021-22 | Paris Saint-Germain |
2020-21 | Lille |
2019-20 | Paris Saint-Germain |
However, when we take a look at the overall ranking, things are much different. There are three sides with the most French title trophies – Olympique Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain, and Saint-Etienne. However, besides Paris Saint-Germain, none of the other two won anything of significance in recent history. Marseille was the only one to win a title in the modern era, which was all the way back in 2009-10. A great advantage of Ligue 1 predictions this season is that the odds will be higher on other teams compared to PSG.
Rank | Club | Winners |
---|---|---|
1. | Paris Saint-Germain | 13 |
2. | Olympique Marseille, Saint-Etienne | 10 |
3. | Monaco, Nantes | 8 |
3. | Olympique Lyon | 7 |
5. | Bordeaux, Lille, Reims, Roubaix | 6 |
If any Ligue 1 predictions and betting tips were very clear in the past 4 years, it was that Mbappe will be the player of the year, but since he left for Real Madrid, this had to change in 24/25 season.
Season | Player of the Year | Club |
---|---|---|
2024-25 | Ousmane Dembélé | PSG |
2023-24 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG |
2022-23 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG |
2021-22 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG |
2020-21 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG |
2018-19 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG |
Considering that Ligue 1 predictions and betting tips don’t always involve a lot of goals, some people think that should relate to the number of goals scored by a single player, but when you have Mbappe in the league, it’s clearly not the case. However, with Mbappe leaving French League 1 for the Spanish LaLiga, someone else had to take the mantle of the Top Goalscorer in 24/25, and that was Ousmane Dembélé, again from PSG.
Season | Top Goalscorer | Club | Goals |
---|---|---|---|
2024-25 | Ousmane Dembélé | PSG | 21 |
2023-24 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG | 27 |
2022-23 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG | 29 |
2021-22 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG | 28 |
2020-21 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG | 27 |
2019-20 | Kylian Mbappe
Wissam Ben Yedder | PSG
Monaco | 18 |
