Free Bundesliga Betting Tips and Predictions

German Bundesliga is one of the most exciting football leagues in Europe, where attractive attacking football is on display every weekend. One team has dominated the competition for years though, Bayern Munich, but it seems like that won’t be the case anymore.

Updated: 27/05/2025

24/25 Bundesliga Season Recap

The 2024/25 Bundesliga season saw Bayern Munich reclaim the title, marking their 34th German championship overall. Under new head coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern returned to the summit after a rare trophyless campaign the previous year. They secured the title with two games to spare, capitalising on Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw with Freiburg, which left the Werkself unable to close the gap.

Bayern’s campaign was defined by consistency and attacking prowess. The team spent nearly the entire season at the top, winning 23 of their first 32 matches and losing just twice. They scored a league-high 99 goals, with Harry Kane leading the charge in his second season in Germany. Kane finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 26 goals, contributing more than a quarter of Bayern’s total.

European Qualification

German clubs’ strong performances in European competitions earned the Bundesliga four Champions League spots for the upcoming season. This means that besides the champions Bayern Munich, they will be joined by Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Borussia Dortmund. Both Dortmund and Eintracht secured their spot on the final matchday, with Die Adler knocking out a direct competitor in Freiburg with a 3-1 away win.

Freiburg and Mainz secured Europa League football, with Mainz finishing 6th ahead of RB Leipzig, thanks to a 2-2 draw against Leverkusen on their final game of the season.

Relegation

At the other end of the table, Holstein Kiel’s debut Bundesliga season ended in disappointment. Despite making history as the first club from Schleswig-Holstein to play in the top flight, they finished with 25 points and were relegated, finishing 17th in the league.

VfL Bochum also went down, ending a four-year stint in the Bundesliga after a heavy 2-0 loss to St. Pauli, ending the season with 25 points and only six games won. Heidenheim, after a season that saw them play European football, will have to try to preserve their Bundesliga status through relegation playoffs, by facing Elversberg.

Meanwhile, FC Cologne and Hamburg are the two teams promoted from the Bundesliga 2. Cologne finished first, ahead of die Rothosen, separated by only two points.

Standout Players and Statistics

Harry Kane’s 26 goals set the pace for the league’s scorers, with Patrik Schick (Leverkusen) and Serhou Guirassy (Dortmund) both netting 21 and finishing as runners-up. Jonathan Burkardt (Mainz) followed with 18, while Tim Kleindienst (Gladbach) rounded out the top five with 16 goals.

In terms of creativity, Michael Olise (Bayern) led the assists chart with 15, followed by Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen) with 12 and Vincenzo Grifo (Freiburg) with 11. Pascal Gross and Julian Brandt, both from Dortmund, also made a significant impact, providing 10 assists each.

Season Perspective

This season highlighted Bayern’s ability to bounce back and adapt quickly under new leadership. Kompany’s tactical approach brought stability and attacking flair, with the team’s depth and experience proving decisive. Harry Kane’s influence grew, not just as a scorer but as a focal point for Bayern’s attack.

Leverkusen, last year’s champions, remained competitive but couldn’t match Bayern’s consistency, while Eintracht’s continued presence in the top three signalled a shift in the league’s power dynamics. Besides Die Adler, both Mainz and Freiburg were the surprise teams of the season, and if things turned out a bit differently, they too could have played Champions League football next season.

At the bottom, the struggles of promoted and established teams alike underscored the league’s competitiveness. Holstein Kiel’s brief stay and Bochum’s relegation reflected just how tough playing in Germany’s top flight could be.

Overall, the 2024/25 Bundesliga season saw things get back to normal and Bayern establishing their dominance once again. There were rarely any surprises, bar from Mainz and Freiburg’s emergence, but we also got to see Dortmund rise up to the occasion. They managed to come back in the latter half of the season, escaping mid-table mediocrity and qualifying for the Champions League at the very last second.
