Johnny Henderson Grand Annual 2025 Preview
This two mile handicap is always a terrific spectacle, with a huge field of progressive performers always going off at a rapid pace and those ridden with patience usually coming out on top as the final hill takes its toll. The 2022 renewal has a typically wide open look to things, with bookmakers offering 12/1 the field, but perhaps Henry de Bromhead’s unexposed Coeur Sublime is the one to side with. He has only had three runs over fences, with perhaps inexperience a slight concern, but he was battle hardened over hurdles and this big field and strong pace should be ideal if he can jump fluently.

Henry de Bromhead’s progressive chaser impressed when getting off the mark at the third attempt at Gowran Park in January (at a time when the yard was rather quiet), and he could be leniently treated now going into handicaps. He was thought good enough to contest the Champion Hurdle here in 2020 (sent off 12/1 behind Epatante), and has a touch of class that is always needed in this two mile cavalry charge.

Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Winners
One of the oldest races in the calendar (dating back to 1834 and providing a brilliant spectacle over two miles), with a huge field guaranteed and a blistering gallop maintained from the tape. Croco Bay was one of the biggest shocks in the races history when rolling back the years in 2019 when he won at 66/1, but the punters were back in charge when the well backed Chosen Mate swooped late in 2020. The race had a new position on Wednesday in 2021 (and remains there in 2022), and punters are always best looking out for a patiently ridden two mile specialist (with numerous frontrunners usually cutting each others throats up front before the final hill). Last years winner Sky Pirate was delivered to perfection up the hill by Nick Scholfield, as the pace predictably collapsed in the closing stages.
